LONGVIEW- The Sul Ross Lady Lobos used a goal in each half and a 12 save shutout in goal to defeat the LeTourneau Lady Jackets 2-0 in Longview.
Sonrisa Natividad's first goal of the season at 19:45 gave Sully a 1-0 lead off an assist by
Rebecca Esquivel. It was Esquivel's second assist of the season.
LeTourneau fired 21 shots in the first half, putting eight on goal, but goalkeeper
Alitzel Ybarra came up perfect and blanked the Lady Jackets in the first half.
Sully would extend the lead to two in the second half when
Aylin Villalobos scored her team-high seventh of the season at 57:26.
Marli Martin supplied her second assist of the season and the Lady Lobos led it 2-0.
Ybarra and the defense foloowed up their first half with a big second half. LeTourneau fired another 12 shots, the defense only allowed four on goal and Ybarra came up perfect again to help Sully secure the 2-0 win.
The Lady Lobos made the most of their opportunities on the day. They put five shots on goal for the game, but were able to find the back of the net twice.
Ybarra's 12 saves ties a season and career-high. She achieved the feat twice earlier this season against Trinity on September 1 and University of the Ozarks on September 27. It was also her fourth complete game shutout of the season.
Sully's record improves to 3-9-4 on the season and 2-6-2 in conference play.
The regular season for the Lady Lobos comes to a close Friday, November 1 against Howard Payne at Lobo Field.
