Final Statistics

SHERMAN- Freshman forward Emily Mihalik recorded a goal and an assist and paced Sul Ross to a 3-2 season-opening victory over Austin College Sunday in Sherman.

The Lady Lobos finished with a 20-shot tally putting 10 on goal while Austin College posted eight shots with four on frame.

The Kangaroos struck first at the 3:34 mark, first half, as Madi Galvan scored off an assist by Madeline Klem.

Sully fired back at the 25th minute as Mihalik scored, unassisted, to tie the game at one. At 37:04, sophomore midfielder Marli Martin drilled the second goal for Sul Ross just inside the box for a 2-1 lead heading to the break.

Mihalik then set up a pass to senior midfielder Haley Gillespie who banked on her first goal of the season at the 64:33 mark, second half.

Austin College threatened just nine seconds later with a tap shot by Catalina Canizalezoff an assist by Tori Ortiz.

Sul Ross snuffed the rally and came away with the 3-2 win.

The Lady Lobos start off the season at 1-0 while the Kangaroos drop to 0-2.

Sully will face Schreiner University Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Kerrville.
