LONGVIEW- The Sul Ross State University Lobo baseball team won both games of Sunday's doubleheader against host LeTourneau University in ASC competition.
Sully held on for a 5-3 victory in game one before shutting out the Yellowjackets in game two in a 6-0 decision,
In game one,
Cody Remore improved his season record to 8-2 after pitching 6.1 innings.
Remore posted seven strikeouts while yielding a pair of runs off of three hits.
LeTourneau scored a run in their first at-bat before an RBI ground out by
Monty Maley in the Lobo second scored
Jonathon Bigley to tie the game at one.
In the top of the third,
Ryan Almager's single scored
Jace Jenkins for a 2-1 Sul Ross lead.
Maley then scored in the sixth off a balk before
Guillermo Loera and
Jacob Ochoa came across in the same inning, both unearned, as
Wesley Moss reached on a fielder's choice.
The Yellowjackets threatened with two runs in the bottom of the seventh but reliever
Sam Russell was able to overcome a two-out jam with runners in scoring position.
A double by Moss in the third inning of game two scored
Ryan Acebedo.
Moss then scored in the sixth off a throwing error giving Sully a 2-0 lead.
The Lobos added four more runs in the seventh as a sacrifice fly by Acebedo scored Munden.
Moss then scored off a single to left field by Almager for a 4-0 Sul Ross advantage.
An infield single by Maley plated Almager and
Joseph Sanchez before Sully snuffed a LeTourneau comeback in the final three frames for the 6-0 win.
Starter
Aaron Marquez improved to 3-1 on the season with game two's victory. Marquez worked sixth complete innings striking out six opposing batters while surrendering four hits.
The Lobos improve to 19-11 on the season including a 13-4 mark in the ASC. The Yellowjackets drop to 16-12 and 8-6 following Sunday's twin bill sweep.
Sul Ross and LeTourneau will close out their three-game series Monday with a single, nine-inning game beginning at noon.
