CLARKSVILLE, Ark.- Sul Ross and University of the Ozarks baseball teams split a Friday doubleheader in Clarksville.
The Lobos edged the Eagles, 6-5 in the first contest before dropping an 11-7 decision in game two.
In game one,
Ryan Almager clubbed the first off three home runs on the afternoon in the top of the opening inning.
Ozarks then shouldered five runs over the second and third innings to take a 5-1 lead.
In the Sul Ross fifth, a double by
Ryan Acebedo scored
Jace Jenkins before an infield error scored Acebeo and pulled Sully to within two.
The Lobos narrowed their deficit to one in the sixth as
Holden Simpson's sacrifice fly scored Almager.
Jacob Ochoa then homered in the top of the seventh to tie the game before
Wesley Moss scored on a dropped fly ball in the outfield giving the visitors a 6-5 lead and the eventual victory.
Cody Remore collected the win after six complete innings. The senior ace gave up six hits but struck out six of 20 batters faced.
In the second game, a two-run double by
Jonathon Bigley in the top of the third scored Jorge Sanchez and Moss for a 2-0 Sul Ross lead.
Ozarks then put up four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-2 advantage.
A sacrifice fly out by
Mike Munden in the fourth plated
Guillermo Loera to pull the visitors to within one before an Almager home run in the fifth tied the game at four.
Bigley came across in the fifth as
Luke Vedder reached base on a hit-by-pitch. An infield single by Munden scored
Monty Maley giving Sully a 6-4 lead.
The Eagles then added another four-run outing in the bottom of the fifth for an 8-6 advantage.
Ozarks reeled in three more runs in their half of the seventh before Almager homered again the ninth leading to the 11-7 Eagle victory.
With Friday's split, Sul Ross moves to 10-8 on the season and 4-1 in ASC play while the Eagles stand at 7-8 and 2-4.
The two teams will close out their three-game conference series Saturday with a single, nine-inning contest beginning at noon.
