ALPINE, Texas- Sul Ross baseball defeated former ASC rival Austin College in an 8-3, series-opening decision at a chilly Kokernot Field Friday evening.
Jonathon Bigley hit a team-best 3-for-4 including a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh.
The Lobos plated the first two runs of the contest in the bottom half of the first as
Wesley Moss scored on a double by
Jorge Marquez.
A single by
Ryan Almager then drove in Marquez for a 2-0 Sul Ross lead heading to the second.
The Kangaroos tied the outing in their second at-bat before Bigley scored in the fifth on a passed ball.
Jace Jenkins then scored, unearned, in the same inning on a single by
Ryan Acebedo giving Sully a 4-2 lead.
Austin College scored its final run of the game in the top of the seventh and trailed 4-3.
Bigley then homered to left field in the bottom of the frame to spread the gap by a 5-3 margin.
Another Almager rbi single in the eighth drove
Austin Luna across before an infield single by Bigley scored Marquez.
Sully capped the inning with a sacrifice fly by
Monty Maley which scored Almager for an 8-3 Lobo lead and the eventual victory.
Senior ace
Cody Remore improved to 3-1 on the season after throwing 6.1 innings. Remore gave up 10 hits but struck out nine Kangaroo batters.
With Friday's win, the Lobos improve to 8-6 on the season while Austin College evens their season record to 1-1.
The two teams will close out the series with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
