ALPINE, Texas- In its 2018 season opener, the Sul Ross Lobo baseball team won both ends of Saturday's doubleheader over visiting University of Dallas.
Following a 7-3 victory in game one, Sully unleashed a 20-hit payload and coasted to a 13-4 win over the Crusaders in the back end of Saturday's twin bill.
Lobo ace
Cody Remore picked up the win in the first contest yielding four hits and striking out six opposing batters after five complete innings.
Dallas took a 2-0 lead following their opening at-bat.
An rbi fielder's choice off the bat of
Monty Maley scored
Joseph Sanchez in the the bottom of the first to pull the Lobos to within one.
Jacob Pool's two-run single in the Lobo third scored Sanchez and
Guillermo Loera giving Sully a one-run go ahead.
Ryan Acebedo then came across in the next inning off a single by
Wesley Moss extending the home team's lead to two.
Sul Ross would plate three more runs in the bottom of the sixth as
Jonathon Bigley singled Acebedo across.
A Crusader fielding error in the same inning then scored Loera and Moss for a 7-2 Lobo lead.
Dallas could only muster a one-run seventh as Sully walked away with the 7-3 victory.
In game two, the Crusaders posted a 3-0 lead in the opening frame before an rbi ground out by
Jacob Ochoa scored Moss in the bottom half of the first.
A homer in the top of the second spread the gap to three in favor of Dallas.
Loera's sacrifice fly in the ensuing inning scored Ochoa and cut Sully's deficit to two.
The Lobos then reeled in four runs in their half of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead before collecting seven more runs over the seventh and eighth for the 13-4 win.
Freshman reliever
Kole Vedder picked up the victory after seven innings giving up four hits and retiring six batters.
Sul Ross will go for the series sweep in a 1:00 p.m. contest Sunday at Kokernot Field.
