ABILENE- Senior ace
Cody Remore pitched a complete game victory in game one as Sul Ross coasted to an 11-1 ASC win over the McMurry War Hawks Sunday at Walt Driggers Field.
The Lobos also took the backend of the doubleheader in a 7-6 decision.
In game one, Remore struck out five batters and finished with a seven-hit yield to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Sul Ross unloaded with a six-run payload in the opening inning.
The War Hawks scored their only run of the outing in their opening at-bat.
Sully then scattered five more runs across a five-inning spread including a two-run homer by senior slugger
Ryan Almager for the 11-1 win.
The Lobos doubled up on McMurry in the hitting department by a 14-7 margin while the defense finished all seven innings without an error.
Sul Ross outpaced the War Hawks in game two by a slim 12-11 hitting margin.
The home team took the initiative with a three-run attack in the bottom of the first.
A single through the left side by Almager in the Lobo third scored
Wesley Moss to pull the visitors to within two.
McMurry plated another run in their side of the third to extend their lead back to three.
Moss then scored off a throwing error by the catcher following a stolen base at third in the top half of the fifth.
Almager would come across in the same inning off a single by
Jacob Pool to narrow Sully's deficit by a run heading to a scoreless bottom of the fifth.
A double in the sixth by Moss scored a pair of unearned runs as
Jett Hartley and
Holden Simpson came across giving the Lobos a 5-4 go ahead.
Almager then singled Moss across in the same inning giving Sul Ross a 6-4 advantage.
A two-run, bottom of the sixth by McMurry tied the outing at six before
Jonathon Bigley stole home in the top of the ninth for the 7-6 victory.
Freshman reliever
Sam Russell collected the win after throwing the final two innings without a hit and striking out four War Hawk batters.
The Lobos improve their overall record to 6-6 and bump their ASC mark to 2-0.
McMurry drops to 3-5 on the season and 0-2 in their conference opener.
Sully and the War Hawks will close out their three-game series Monday with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
