AUSTIN- The Sul Ross State University baseball team split a series-opening doubleheader with Concordia University in an outing that logged nearly seven hours.
Following 10-0 loss in game one, the Lobos regrouped and routed the Tornados in a 21-8 decision in the second contest.
Sully rallied from a 6-4 deficit in the fourth inning of game two with a six-run attack.
Concordia answered with two runs in their half of the fourth to pull within two, trailing 10-8. It would mark the final inning the home team would light the scoreboard as Sul Ross spread the gap and scattered 11 runs over the next four innings.
Both teams were held scoreless in the final frame as Sul Ross coasted to the 21-8 victory.
Sul Ross and Concordia split a combined 24-hit payload.
Senior
Ryan Almager led the charge batting four-for-five with three rbi and a sacrifice fly.
Jonathon Bigley,
Joseph Sanchez,
Monty Maley and
Jorge Marquez notched a double each.
Maley led the team with five runs batted in while
Jacob Pool posted a team-best three walks.
Justin Haros picked up the win with two innings of relief.
Sul Ross bumps its mark to 4-5 on the season an evens its ASC record at 1-1. The Tornados also start conference play at 1-1 and move their season record to 5-4.
The Lobos and Tornados will close out the three-game series with a single nine-inning game Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
