SAN ANTONIO, Texas- Sul Ross Women's Basketball dropped a 79-62 non-conference decision to Trinity University in San Antonio Friday.
Chandre Nunez led the effort with 22 points while
Annie Lenoir followed up with 14 points.
Kaylee Martinez finished with a team-best seven rebounds.
The Tigers jumped out to a 9-0 lead to begin the contest.
A jumper by
Jocelyne Roque pulled the Lady Lobos to within six trailing 12-6 with just under a minute left in the first quarter.
Trinity's Kelly Simmons banked on a pair of free throws handing the home team a 14-6 lead heading to the second quarter.
Sul Ross broke into double digits as Nunez converted a foul shot at the 7:31 mark.
The Tigers broke out to a pair of 20-point leads and sported a 38-19 advantage at the half.
Trinity then erupted in the third quarter with two 22-point leads before the Lady Lobos narrowed their deficit down to 14 off a free throw by
Lizette Heredia with 11 seconds left in the period.
The home team dominated the closing quarter as Jazmine Valdez scored the final bucket of the contest in the final seconds as the Tigers sealed the 79-62 victory.
Friday's setback drops the Lady Lobos to 1-2 on the season while Trinity improves to 4-1.
Sul Ross visits Schreiner University Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
