Priscila Serrano posted a team-best 11 kills as Sul Ross (2-14) fell to visiting University of the Southwest (5-11) in four sets Monday night at the Gallego Center.
The Lady Lobos defeated the Mustangs in the opening set in a 25-19 decision.
Southwest recovered and took the next three games by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-17.
In game one, Sully rallied from an early deficit and took an 13-12 lead off a Mustang attack error.
The Lady Lobos then relied on a mixture of offensive output and opponent hit errors to hold the advantage in the latter half of the set.
Back-to-back kills by Serrano placed the outing at set point before another Mustang attack error handed Sul Ross the 25-19 set victory.
Freshmen
Mirella Thomas (San Antonio/Stevens) and
Alesi Hernandez (Odessa/OHS) shouldered 16 and 15 assists while libero
Hannah Zly led the defense with 14 digs.
Alyssa Lanahan (El Paso/Bel Air) and Hernandez contributed 13 and 10 stops in the effort.
The Lady Lobos return to American Southwest Conference action Friday and Saturday at McMurry and Hardin-Simmons.
