BELTON- The Sul Ross women's basketball team (9-14, 6-8 ASC) fell to host Mary Hardin-Baylor (15-7, 8-5 ASC) in a 77-68 conference decision Thursday evening.
The Lady Lobos, who still remain in the hunt for a post-season berth, will play their final road game of the regular season Saturday in Austin against Concordia University.
It was all UMHB in the opening quarter as the Crusaders started the contest with a 15-0 run as Sul Ross limped into the second quarter trailing 17-2.
A three-point basket by
Katy Boren (Lubbock/Cooper) midway through the period propelled the visitors into single digits down 19-11.
Back-to-back free throws by
Ashley Ousley (Killeen/Shoemaker) pulled the Lady Lobos to within three at the half.
Boren fired off another three-point play nine seconds into the third period to tie the game at 28.
Mary Hardin-Baylor broke back into a double digit lead down the stretch of the quarter and led 57-44 heading to the fourth.
Sul Ross slid to within five with two minutes remaining as
Lindsey Hearn (Lubbock/Lubbock Christian HS) banked from long range.
Two foul shots by UMHB's Alexandrai Howze at nine seconds would be the final points scored for either team.
Boren finished with a team-high 17 points while Hearn posted 15 points in the effort. Ousley recorded 10 points on the evening.
