AUSTIN- Sul Ross Women's Basketball (9-15, 6-9 ASC) struggled with a 32 percent shooting performance as host Concordia (14-9, 7-7 ASC) held on for a 72-62 overtime victory over the Lady Lobos Saturday in Austin.
With Saturday's setback the Lady Lobos are on a six-game skid heading into Saturday's regular season finale against visiting Howard Payne University.
Sul Ross started the game on a 4-0 run.
The Tornados answered with a 4-0 volley to tie the game with 8:47 left in the first quarter.
The lead was exchanged over the next several minutes before the back end of two converted free throws by
Ellyn Avery (Grady/GHS) gave Sully an 11-10 advantage.
Sul Ross would go up by five as
Kendra Walls (Rochelle/RHS) canned a three-point bucket at 1:19.
Concordia ended the period on a 4-0 run and trailed 16-15 heading to the second.
The home team took the go ahead early in the period and would go on to sport a pair of seven-point leads before heading to the break with a 33-28 favor.
The Tornados started the third quarter with another 4-0 run and broke into a double digit lead at 6:35.
A three-pointer by
Katy Boren (Lubbock/Cooper) at 1:31 tied the outing at 41.
Concordia's Jaela Dejean finished up the period with a pair of foul shots for a 43-41 Tornado advantage heading to the fourth.
The Lady Lobos were never able to recover the lead in the fourth period but mounted an 8-0 run late in the quarter to tie the game at 56 as Boren nailed a three-point shot at 1:02.
The 56-56 knotting survived the remainder of the period extending the contest to overtime.
Lindsey Hearn (Lubbock/Lubbock Christian HS) banked from outside the arc 26 seconds into the extra slot for a 59-56 Lady Lobo lead.
The lead was swapped until 2:22 when Concordia fired off 10 unanswered points to secure the 72-62 victory.
Boren finished the day with a team-best 23 points and tied her season-high from a 61-50 win over visiting Schreiner on November 29.
She tied teammate
Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) with a team-leading eight rebounds in Saturday's effort.
