ALPINE, Texas- The Sul Ross women's basketball team (9-13, 6-7 ASC) dropped a 78-67 ASC decision to visiting McMurry University (7-14, 3-10 ASC) over the weekend.
Saturday's setback places the Lady Lobos on a four-game skid heading into next week's bout at Mary Hardin-Baylor.
A three-point basket by
Lindsey Hearn (Lubbock/Lubbock Christian HS) early in the opening period gave Sul Ross its only lead of the contest.
The War Hawks went on a 14-point surge in the second quarter and led 42-31 at the half.
McMurry then held two, 15-point leads in the third period but Sully battled its way down to a six-point deficit heading to the closing quarter.
A jumper by
Katy Boren (Lubbock/Cooper) at 5:44 closed the gap to a deuce with the Lady Lobos down, 62-60.
The visitors would break into a double digit lead down the stretch of the quarter and held on for the 78-67 win.
Three Sul Ross players finished in double figures led by Ellen Avery's (Grady/GHS) 13 points. Boren and Hearn sported 12 and 11 points respectively in the effort.
Avery and
Taylor Gass (Gail/Borden County) led rebounders with seven boards each.
Sully shot a stale 21-of-56 from the floor at 38 percent including a 7-of-21 showing from beyond the arc.
The Lady Lobos connected on 18-of-22 free throws at 82 percent.
