Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) scored a career-best 37 points but tournament host LeTourneau posted a sizeable lead early and never looked back as the No. 1 seeded Yellow Jackets defeated the Lobos 90-74 in Thursday's opening round of the ASC Men's Basketball Championship.
Sul Ross winds up the season at 13-13 while LeTourneau improves to 21-5.
The home team climbed to a double digit lead three minutes into the contest.
LeTourneau soared to a 27-point advantage with under two minutes left in the first half and went to the break leading 48-25.
The Yellow Jackets sported a 29-point favor early in the second period and never allowed the margin to dip under 20 until the 5:00 mark when
C.J. Ross (Austin/Akins) converted a layup cutting the Lobo deficit to 18.
Two free throws by
A.J. James (Spring/SHS) at 52 seconds would be the final points scored for either team as LeTourneau went on to claim the 90-74 win.
Thomasson's 37-point performance was a point better than his previous career-high in a 97-95 setback to Concordia on February 11.
He also led the team in rebounds with 12 boards.
James and Ross sported 13 and 10 points respectively in the effort.
