ALPINE, Texas- Texas Lutheran University (6-3, 6-2) stacked up 611 yards of total offense and coasted to a 40-14 ASC victory over Sul Ross (4-5, 3-5) Saturday in Sully's final home game of the season.
The Lobos struck first early in the opening period as
James Davis connected with
Wesley Moss on a 66-yard touchdown pass.
Eli Lopez booted the extra-point kick for a 7-0 Sul Ross advantage with 13:08 left in the first quarter.
At 6:02, the Bulldogs' Jordan Braden hauled in a 65-yard run before Tyler Hopkins converted the PAT to tie the game at seven.
Davis then found
Steven Savedra for a 72-yard strike on the ensuing possession at 5:17. Lopez's kick cleared the uprights giving Sul Ross the seven-point go ahead.
Texas Lutheran closed out the period with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Grona to Reggie Jackson. Hopkins cleared the point after attempt at 1:44.
Grona then found Jekovan Holmes on a five-yard scoring toss with 5:43 left in the second. Hopkins nailed the extra point as the Bulldogs carried a 21-14 advantage to the half.
TLU put the Lobos away in the second half with 19 unanswered points including a safety for the 40-14 win.
Sul Ross will close out the season at Belhaven University next Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
