NATCHITOCHES, La.- Sophomore
Brock Anders (Keller/KHS) tied his season-best with 21 points to lead Sul Ross (8-6, 5-1 ASC) to a 74-66 ASC victory over Louisiana College (2-8, 0-6 ASC) Thursday evening.
Anders secured 21 points in Sully's 82-77 season-opening win over Schreiner University on November 15.
The Lobos will tangle with Belhaven University at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Wildcats scored the first two buckets to begin the contest.
Sul Ross assembled a 6-0 run that culminated on a jump shot by
Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) to tie the game at nine with 13:48 remaining in the first half.
Dawson then followed up with a free throw just moments later to give the Pack its first lead of the game.
The Lobos would never surrender the lead for the remainder of the period as Anders connected with a jumper from the elbow at 48 seconds for a 36-27 Sul Ross advantage.
Louisiana College's Timothy Stokes banked on the first of two free throws with half a minute left as Sully went to the break leading 36-28.
Sul Ross utilized a 6-0 run early in the second half and led 44-30 as
Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) scored on a layup at 18:09.
The Wildcats fought their way down to a one-point deficit and claimed the go ahead on a scooper by John Parker at 8:57.
The Lobos knotted the game at 60 as Anders nailed a long distance shot at 6:31.
Sully then moved on a 9-0 run as Anders fired another long range jumper at 3:36 for a 70-60 Sul Ross lead.
The visitors ended the game on a 4-0 sprint and held on for the 74-66 victory.
Xavier Webb (Riverton, WY/RHS) finished with a second team-best 13 points while Dawson and Thomasson recorded 11 points each.
C.J. Ross (Austin/Akins) led Lobo rebounders with seven boards.
The Lobos hit half of their shots from the floor at 26-of-52 shooting but converted just a quarter of their three-point attempts at 6-of-24.
