ALPINE, Texas- Sophomore guard
Taylor Gass (Gail/Borden County) paced the Lady Lobos with 13 points as Sul Ross (9-9, 6-3 ASC) powered past Concordia University (10-7, 3-5 ASC), 74-49 Thursday night at the Gallego Center.
The Sul Ross women will host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
A free throw by
Ellyn Avery (Grady/GHS) and a three-point bucket by Gass gave the home team a 4-0 lead to begin the first quarter following a two and a half minute scoreless tie.
The Tornados knotted the contest at the four minute mark as Mecedes Ellison scored on a fast break layup.
A layup by
Bayli Bowles (Roosevelt/RHS) broke the tie before Avery's jumper at 1:48 put Sul Ross ahead, 10-6.
Concordia pulled to within one as Brenisha Payne connected from outside the arc with 1:14 remaining in the period.
Freshman
Avery Gregory (Lubbock/Cooper) ended the quarter on a baseline jump shot for a 12-9 Lady Lobo advantage heading to the second.
Sully climbed to an 11-point lead with a 10-0 run to begin the ensuing quarter.
Ashley Ousley (Killeen/Shoemaker) nailed a midrange bucket at the 6:32 post giving the home squad a 22-11 lead.
Kendra Walls (Rochelle/RHS) then banked from long distance at 2:55 for a 28-14 Lady Lobo favor.
Sul Ross ended the half on a 5-0 run as Bowles converted a layup with Sully ahead 33-15 at the break.
Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) scored the first bucket of the second half on a baseline jumper and extended the Sul Ross advantage to 20.
Gass then fired a three ball at the 7:54 mark spreading the gap, 41-18.
The Tornados were allowed no closer than a 16-point deficit down the stretch as the Lady Lobos sailed to the final period up 51-32.
A 5-0 Sul Ross run to begin the fourth ended on back-to-back free throws by
Hannah Carr (Wall/WHS).
Sully allowed their lead to dip under 20 before securing three, 27-point leads over the remainder of the quarter.
Concordia's Raven Cato scored the final bucket with 16 seconds remaining as the Lady Lobos nailed down the 74-49 victory.

Lindsey Hearn (Lubbock/Lubbock Christian HS) posted nine points in Thursday's win.
Miles and Gregory (Lubbock/Cooper) led rebounders with six boards each.
Sul Ross finished at 23-of-49 shooting from the field at 47 percent and recorded a 12-of-26 performance from three-point range at 46 percent.
