Sul Ross women fall to LeTourneau, 67-56

ALPINE, Texas- A cold day of shooting and 21 turnovers proved costly as Sul Ross (4-2, 1-1 ASC) dropped a 67-56 conference decision to LeTourneau University (2-4, 1-1 ASC) Saturday at the Gallego Center.

The Lady Lobos will face their first road test of the season on December 8 as Sully visits East Texas Baptist University for a 5:30 ASC tip.

Sul Ross and LeTourneau swapped leads for a majority of the opening period before the visitors took advantage of a 4-2 sprint and ended the quarter up 15-11.

A three pointer by LeTourneau's Paige Demry at 7:49 extended the Lady Jacket lead to seven.

LeTourneau would then go on a 13-point attack and led 25-12 with 5:25 remaining before the half.

Sul Ross battled its way down to a five-point deficit as Katy Boren (Lubbock/Cooper) connected on a fast break layup at 1:07.

The Lady Jackets scored the final pair of buckets on a three-pointer and layup by Crystal Jones for a 34-24 LeTourneau lead heading to intermission.

Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) cut the Lady Lobo deficit to nine off the first of two free throws to begin the third quarter.

The Lady Jackets would return to a double digit lead before a jump shot by Miles cut the LeTourneau advantage to eight at 6:31.

Sul Ross narrowed its deficit to six as Lindsey Hearn (Lubbock/Lubbock Christian HS) sank the first of a pair of foul shots with 1:32 left in the third.

LeTourneau ended the quarter on a 3-0 clip for a 45-36 advantage.

The Lady Jackets never relinquished the lead in the closing period although another jump shot by Miles at 1:47 trimmed the Sul Ross deficit to five, 61-56.

The visitors ended the outing on a 6-0 run to claim the 67-56 victory.

Miles led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Ellyn Avery (Grady/GHS) supplied 12 points in the effort.

The Lady Lobos ended the game shooting just 20 of 55 from the field at 36 percent including a five of 20 showing from beyond the arc.
