Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) grabbed a double double 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Sul Ross (5-2, 2-1 ASC) to a 76-62 ASC victory over East Texas Baptist (0-7, 0-3 ASC) in Sully's first road game of the season.
The Lady Lobos will face Wayland Baptist University in non conference play on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from Plainview.
Sul Ross posted an 11-point, 15-4 lead off a three-pointer by
Taylor Gass (Taylor/Borden County) with 3:34 left in the first quarter.
A three-point shot by
Avery Gregory (Lubbock/Cooper) at 1:38 extended the visitors' lead to 14.
Gregory then finished up the quarter on a fast break layup with 12 seconds for a 22-6 Lady Lobo advantage.
Gass then knocked down a three ball just seven seconds into the second period to put Sul Ross ahead 25-6.
The Tigers ended the half with a layup by Malisia Chisolm as ETBU trailed 41-27.
The home team then used a 6-0 run and trailed 52-47 late in the third period.
Chisolm then converted a layup in the final three seconds to cut ETBU's deficit to eight, 60-52.
A three ball by
Lindsey Hearn (Lubbock/Lubbock Christian HS) put Sully back up by double digits with 8:33 left in the fourth and the Lady Lobos never looks back.
Ellyn Avery (Grady/GHS) and
Katy Boren (Lubbock/Cooper) topped out at 15 and 13 points respectively.
Sul Ross finished the game shooting 47 percent including a 36 percent showing from outside the arc.
