Potts extended the Bearcat lead to eight 1:04 into the second period with a 15-foot bucket.

A jumper from midrange by C.J. Ross (Austin/Akins) cut the Sul Ross deficit to one at 16:45.

Rust College was able to maintain the advantage for the next 12 minutes before Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) connected on two free throws giving Sully a slim 64-63 lead.

The Bearcats swiped the lead and held the momentum until the 2:35 mark as Brock Anders (Keller/KHS) nailed a jump shot in the paint for a 68-67 Sul Ross go ahead.

Rust retook the lead and held their ground until A.J. James (Springs/SHS) drained a free throw to tie the game at 71.
