Katy Boren (Lubbock/Cooper) led with 14 points as the Sul Ross women's basketball team (5-4) dropped an 89-58 non-conference contest to visiting Wayland Baptist University (8-2) on Thursday.
The Lady Lobos return to ASC competition this Saturday as University of the Ozarks visits the Gallego Center for a 1:00 p.m. tip off.
A three-point jumper by Boren finished off a 6-0 run for Sul Ross as the home team led, 10-4 with 6:50 remaining in the first quarter of play.
The Lady Lobos maintained the advantage throughout the period as the Flying Queens narrowed their deficit down to three and trailed 19-16 heading to the second quarter.
Two free throws by WBU's Deborah Vandijk tied and gave Wayland Baptist a 25-24 go ahead at 6:56 as the Queens went on to hold the momentum down the stretch.
Ashley Ousley (Killeen/Shoemaker) scored the final Sul Ross bucket off a layup at 25 seconds before the visitors closed the half with an eight-point extension leading 41-33.
The Queens pounced on a 9-0 run to begin the third period before Boren fired off a long range jumper at 7:31 for the Lady Lobos' first score.
WBU would go on to hold a pair of 24-point leads and ended the quarter sitting comfortably with a 67-43 favor.
The visitors exploded to a 36-point lead thanks to a 12-0 run early in the closing quarter and posted its largest margin of 38 before coasting to the 31-point, 89-58 victory.
Kendra Walls (Rochelle/RHS) posted 12 points in the effort while
Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) totaled a team high seven boards.
Ousley contributed five assists in the effort.
