Ellyn Avery (Grady/GHS) finished with 17 points and five assists to lead Sul Ross (6-4, 3-1 ASC) to a 67-63 conference victory over visiting University of the Ozarks (6-6, 2-3 ASC) Saturday.
The Lady Lobos will play their final home game of 2016 on Monday in a noon ASC tip against U.T. Dallas.
Sul Ross trailed 6-4 in the opening quarter before a three-point bucket by
Avery Gregory (Lubbock/Cooper) gave the home team a 7-6 go ahead.
Ozarks took the lead on the ensuing possession before
Kendra Walls (Rochelle/RHS) banked on a fast break layup at 3:10 and swung the lead back to the Lady Lobos.
Sul Ross held a narrow lead over the next two minutes before the Eagles' Rose Robinson converted a pair of free throws to tie the game at 15 at 38 seconds.
Hannah Carr (Wall/WHS) then landed a three-point jumper 11 seconds later giving Sully a 15-14 lead heading to the second quarter.
Kenya Miles stretched the advantage to three off a jump shot in the lane with 9:05 remaining before the half.
Avery then connected from long range at 8:36 for a 20-14 Sul Ross lead before the home team mounted a 4-0 sprint ending on a layup by Walls at 6:40.
Taylor Gass (Gail/Borden County) then cleared a three-point shot at 5:09 for a 27-18 Sul Ross lead.
Katy Boren (Lubbock/Cooper) fired off a shot from outside the arc giving the Lady Lobos a 12-point, 32-20 favor with 3:13 left before intermission.
Boren bingoed again from long distance at 1:21 for a 37-24 lead.
Ozarks posted the final bucket at 13 seconds as Anisha Johnson scored on an unassisted jumper for a 37-26 Lady Lobo lead heading to the break.
Sul Ross maintained a double digit lead until 4:01 left in the third period as Ozark's Hailey Weather popped from three-point distance cutting the visitor deficit to eight, 45-37.
Gregory then canned another three-pointer at 3:39 returning the score to double digits.
The Eagles ended the quarter on a 4-0 run and trailed 48-41 heading to the closing frame.
Sul Ross held the opposition at bay allowing Ozarks to crawl to within five, four-point deficits including the 67-63 final as Walls scored the first of two foul shots to wrap up the afternoon.
Boren registered 13 points in the win while Walls accounted for 10 points.
Miles pulled down a team best 15 rebounds while
Lindsey Hearn (Lubbock/Lubbock Christian HS) snagged 11 boards.
