Alison Muldrow (Crosby/CHS) finished with a team high 12 kills to lead Sul Ross (3-16, 2-7 ASC) to a 3-1 conference victory over visiting Howard Payne (6-10, 3-5 ASC) Tuesday evening.
The Lady Lobos will travel to Richardson this weekend for a three-match crossover against Belhaven, U.T. Tyler and East Texas Baptist.
The Lady Lobos won the opening set edging the Yellow Jackets, 26-24.
Howard Payne answered with a 25-17 victory in the second game before Sully put up back-to-back wins in the final two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-21.
The visitors held a 5-2 lead in the first game before a kill by
Kayla LaRue (Kingwood/Porter) tied the outing at five.
Sul Ross then went on a 7-2 sprint that ended on a kill by Muldrow and an ace by
Brittany Serrano (Marfa/MHS).
Howard Payne pulled its way to a 24-24 tie before a kill by
Candice Hugi (Marysville, CA/MHS) and a faulty set by the Lady Jackets gave Sully the 26-24 win.
The Lady Lobos were unable to recover from a large deficit early in the second game as HPU secured the 25-17 victory.
In game three Sul Ross broke a 7-7 knot off a kill by Muldrow.
Howard Payne kept things close trailing by no more than a deuce before a Lady Lobo attack error gave the Jackets a 15-14 advantage.
The Lady Lobos then commenced on a 9-0 run ending on a hitting error by the Yellow Jackets. A kill by
Katie Reeves (Odessa/Permian) and Hugi solidified the 25-16 Sul Ross victory.
Sully started the fourth and final game with a 4-0 drive but Howard Payne battled its way to several narrow deficits.
A block by Reeves and
Briana McCutcheon (Killeen/Shoemaker) paired with an HPU attack error handed the Lady Lobos the match-deciding 25-21 game win.
Hugi finished with 10 kills while LaRue posted nine. Reeves added 38 assists for the evening while junior libero
McKenna Thomas (Odessa/Permian), Reeves and Serrano tallied 20, 16 and 11 digs respectively.
