ALPINE, Texas- Sul Ross and Hardin-Simmons volleyball teams went toe to toe through five games but the Cowgirls survived with a fifth set rally to defeat the Lady Lobos, 3-2 Saturday at the Gallego Center.
Sully won the first game 25-21 before HSU countered with 25-13 and 25-21 victories in sets two and three.
The Lady Lobos punched back with a commanding 25-14 win in the fourth game before the Cowgirls overcame a late-game deficit and held on for a 16-14 match-deciding victory in set five.
Saturday's loss drops the Lady Lobos to 2-14 on the season and 1-5 in ASC play while the Cowgirls move to 9-7 and 5-2.
Sul Ross returns to the Gallego Center next Thursday and Friday to host Concordia and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Brittany Serrano (Marfa/MHS) and
Breeann Sturges (Woodlake, CA/Exeter) shouldered eight kills each.

Kayla LaRue (Kingwood/Porter) tallied 21 assists.
Sul Ross accounted for three players with double figures in digs as
McKenna Thomas (Odessa/Permian) recorded 19 digs while Serrano and LaRue posted 12 stops each.
