VideoALPINE, Texas- Desare Allen (Midland/MHS) and Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) scored 11 and 10 points respectively as the Sul Ross Lady Lobos fell to visiting Belhaven 63-49 Thursday night.
Allen recorded a team high 10 rebounds to earn a double double in the effort.
As a team, Sul Ross suffered cold shooting from the floor finishing at 18 of 62 or just 29 percent and converted a sluggish three of 17 from beyond the arc at 18 percent.
The Blazers capitalized on Lady Lobo fumbles finishing the day with a 12-5 points off turnovers margin.
Sully won the battle in bench points by a 25-19 margin.
Belhaven started the game on a 4-0 run before a three-pointer by Mia Ochoa (Levelland/Whitharral) closed the Sul Ross deficit to a deuce, trailing 6-4 with 6:43 remaining in the first quarter.
The Blazers closed out the period on a three-ball by BU's Candler Gregory giving the visitors a 23-16 advantage heading to the second.
Belhaven climbed out to three, 15-point leads in the second quarter before holding the Lady Lobos to a 13-point margin at the half leading 33-20.
Sul Ross pulled to within six in the third period off a three-point jumper by Aeriel Holiday (Houston/Bellaire) at 7:40.
The Blazers would go on to sport a pair of 14-point leads before Sully assembled a 4-0 run off of four free throws by Ashley Ousley (Killeen/Shoemaker) and trailed 48-40 heading to the closing quarter.
Belhaven mounted an 18-point spread off a layup by the Blazers' Sierra Pittman at the 5:05 mark.
The Lady Lobos could pull no closer than 10 points as Miles hit a jumper and finished it up with a foul shot at 59 seconds.
Miles would hit the final shot of the game on a free throw as the Blazers coasted for the 63-49 victory.
Sul Ross falls to 3-11 on the season while Belhaven improves to 6-6.
The Lady Lobos will host East Texas Baptist Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
