CLARKSVILLE, Ark.-Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds as Sul Ross dropped a 55-54 conference decision to University of the Ozarks Saturday.
Jonette Jackson (Killeen/Shoemaker) polled a double double 12 points and 16 rebounds in the effort while Ashley Minjarez (El Paso/Irvin) tallied 10 points in the effort.
The Lady Lobos connected on 22 of 57 shots from the field to finish at 39 percent shooting for the day.
Miles and Ashley Ousley (Killeen/Shoemaker) were perfect from the charity stripe each posting 2-2 performances as Sully nailed down eight of 11 foul shots at 73 percent.
Sul Ross got off to a sluggish start allowing the Eagles to assemble an 11-0 run to begin the contest.
Miles converted the first points for the Lady Lobos at the 4:41 mark in the first quarter off a jumper in the paint.
Sul Ross closed the period with a 6-0 run ending on another short range jumper by Miles as the Lady Lobos trailed 17-10 heading to the second quarter.
Ozarks would go on to sport four, nine-point leads in the period but a pair of free throws by Ousley and a 12-foot jump shot by Shannon Villanueva (San Raman, CA/California) narrowed the visitor's deficit to five trailing 26-21 at the break.
A three-pointer late in the third quarter by Minjarez knotted the game at 33 at 3:20.
The Eagles fended off a resilient Lady Lobo attack and led by a narrow 40-38 margin after three periods.
A layup by Mia Ochoa (Levelland/Whitharral) gave Sul Ross their first lead of the game up 47-46 with 6:27 remaining in regulation.
Ozarks climbed out to a five-point lead at 3:11 before Minjarez sank a three-point jumper at 1:49 giving Sully a 54-53 go ahead.
The Eagles scored the final basket with just under a minute remaining as Macie Kultgen's fast break layup put Ozarks up for good as the Eagles solidified the 55-54 victory.
Sul Ross drops to 3-9 and 0-4 with the loss while Ozarks improves to 4-2 and 1-1 in league play.
The Lady Lobos will visit U.T. Dallas for a noon conference tip Monday.
