LONGVIEW-Mia Ochoa (Levellan/Whitharral) registered a team high 13 points while Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) supplied 10 rebounds as the Sul Ross women's basketball team dropped a 61-48 ASC opener to LeTourneau Thursday.

Sul Ross shot a dismal 29 percent from the field at 16 of 55 with several missed opportunities coming in  the paint.

The Yellow Jackets outpaced the Lady Lobos inside by a 24-10 margin in points in  the paint.

Sully held the advantage in fast break and points off the bench by margins of 13-8 and 23-16.

LETU broke out to an 11-point lead in the first quarter and led by 10, 17-7 at the end of the opening period. The Lady Jackets would go on lead lead by as much as 15 in the second quarter before Sul Ross was able to pull to within eight on a fast break three-point shot by Ochoa with 20 seconds left before the half.

Despite a 12-point deficit late in the third, Sul Ross made things interesting midway through the closing quarter as a short range jump shot by Adrianna McBay (Cedar Hill/CHHS) pulled the Lady Lobos to within five, down 58-43 at 5:38.

An 8-0 run by the opposition propelled LeTourneau to the 61-48 victory.

Sul Ross opens up conference play at 0-1 and falls to 2-4 on the season. The Yellow Jackets improve to 3-3 and 1-0.

The Lady Lobos will face U.T. Tyler at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at U.T.T.'s Patriot Center.
