ALPINE, Texas- Xavier Webb (Riverton, WY/RHS) led four players in double figures with 19 points as the Sul Ross men's basketball team defeated visiting Louisiana College, 75-66 in conference competition Saturday.
Alex Harrison (Lubbock/Monterey) scored 16 points coming back from injury. Caleb Thomasson (Ackerly/Sands) and Jacob Caloss (Poth/PHS) registered 12 and 10 points respectively.
Thomasson nailed down eight rebounds for the afternoon.
The Lobos were red hot converting nine of 14 from three-point distance at 64 percent and 25 of 46 from the field at 54 percent.
Sul Ross started the game on a 6-0 run which ended on a jumper in the paint by Harrison with 18:29 remaining in the first half.
The Wildcats would sport a brief 13-8 lead before a Webb three-pointer and a scoop shot by Harrison knotted the game at 13 at 14:54.
The Lobos would never relinquish the lead for the remainder of the half and erupted on an 18-0 run which ended on a free throw by Rocky Feliciano (El Paso/Hanks) at 6:53 and Sul Ross ahead 36-16.
Louisiana College would pull no closer than an eight-point deficit before the Lobos ended the half with another of Webb's long range jumpers giving the home team a 43-31 advantage at halftime.
Sully would hold four, 13-point leads in the second half and would hold their largest margin of 14 off another Webb three-pointer at 7:08.
A fast break dunk at 2:59 by the Wildcats' Anthony Gaines pulled LC to within six, trailing 67-61.
Sul Ross would close shop at the free throw line as Brock Anders (Keller/KHS), Jacob Dawson (Amarillo/AHS) and Webb scored the last four points for the Lobos.
With the victory Sully improves to 4-6 on the season and 2-1 in conference play while Louisiana College falls to 2-7 and 1-3.
Sul Ross will face U.T. Arlington December 21 in an exhibition contest before returning to ASC play on the road January 2 and 4 against University of the Ozarks and U.T. Dallas.
