HOUSTON-Ashley Minjarez (El Paso/Irvin) and Kenya Miles (Tomball/Memorial) led Sul Ross shooters with 12 and 11 points respectively as the Lady Lobos dropped a 75-68 road decision to St. Thomas Sunday in Houston.
Sul Ross played its best basketball in the fourth quarter as the Lady Lobos outscored the Celts 26-18 but a 40-28 halftime deficit was too much to overcome.
"Great effort today, our team came out with a lot of energy and executed good down the stretch," said coach Aaron Tavitas. "Our Achilles heel was the free throw line. We had numerous opportunities to cut the lead down but we continued to come up short going 17-32 from the strip which made the difference in the game."
St. Thomas nailed 86 percent of their free throws at 19-22.
The Lady Lobos drop to 0-2 on the young season and will face former ASC foe Schreiner University in an 8:00 p.m. tip from Kerrville.
