TYLER- McKenna Thomas tallied 15 digs and was the only Sul Ross player in double figures as the Lady Lobos suffered a 3-0 sweeping by East Texas Baptist to close out day one of this week's ASC cross division tournament.
The Tigers coasted to a 25-10 victory in the opening game before taking the Lady Lobos in the final two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-14.
The first game got out of hand quickly for Sul Ross as ETBU sprinted to a 7-0 run midway through the set. The Tigers would then yield just three points to the Lady Lobos off of kills by Candice Hugi and Alexis Shelton. Shelton would then post a service ace as it would be the final point scored for Sul Ross in the set trailing the Tigers, 22-10.
SRSU would hold a couple of brief leads to begin the second set before ETBU went on a 6-0 surge which ended on a Lady Lobo service error.
Sul Ross scored three straight points off of opponent serve and attack errors combined with a kill by April Crowder.
ETBU held the Lady Lobos to a 3-0 run off of another hitting error by the Tigers along with a kill by Hugi and an ace by Katie Reeves as Sul Ross trailed 22-19.
East Texas Baptist then pounced on a 3-0 run to claim the set by a 25-19 decision taking a 2-0 match lead.
Both teams battled but the Tigers held the advantage to begin the closing game.
The Lady Lobos broke into double digits off a kill by Brittany Serrano with Sully trailing 15-10.
Sul Ross was held to just four points from then on off an ETBU service error, kills by Briana McCutcheon and Carly Montero and a bad set by the Tigers.
A 7-0 surge by the opposition pushed the Tigers to the 25-14 win and the match victory.
The Lady Lobos are 6-15 on the season and 2-7 in conference competition while the Tigers bump their mark to 19-3 and 7-2.
Sul Ross will close out the cross over this afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. match against U.T.-Dallas.
