Athletic Trainer Dawson 2526

Dylan Dawson

Dylan Dawson was named Head Athletic Trainer at Sul Ross State in mid-June 2025.

Dawson will also oversee the Sul Ross Athletic Training Apprenticeship Program. The apprenticeship program offers students the opportunity to record hours under the direct supervision of a licensed and certified athletic trainer. The apprenticeship also has a specially designed curriculum that allows students to sit for the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration (TDLR) exam and become licensed athletic trainers in the state of Texas.

"I am grateful for this opportunity to be a part of SRSU athletics,” said Dawson.  “Working at the secondary level has been incredibly rewarding. I've had the opportunity to work with and watch many high school athletes move on to compete in their respective sports at the higher level. I loved my time as a college student athlete and am very excited to build relationships and assist our Lobo athletes when they need help. Far West Texas is near and dear to my heart - I am ecstatic to get to call it home."

Dawson had been the head athletic trainer for the Weatherford Independent School District in (Texas) since May 2021.  She had been the co-head athletic trainer for WISD from July 2018 to May 2021.

Dawson spent 12 summers (2010-16, 2021-25) as a counselor, wrangler, and assistant camp director at the Prude Ranch Guest Ranch and Summer Camp in Fort Davis, Texas.  Among her duties were assisting the camp director in planning and training employees, leading trail rides, providing horseback riding and horsemanship instruction, provide medical attention and planning and coordinating off campground trips.

Dawson has a Bachelor of Behavioral Science in Exercise Science from Hardin-Simmons and a Master of Science in Athletic Training from Tarleton State.  She was a 4 year letter winner for the HSU golf team under head coach Bart Craig. During her time playing for the Cowgirls, Dawson was an All-Southwest Conference 2nd Team recipient in 2014 and 2015, named ASC Conference Player of the Week three times and a WGCA All American Scholar 2013-2016.
