Marquis Muse became the first head women's soccer coach at Sul Ross State University in July, 2015 and the first men's soccer coach in August, 2018.
Prior to Sul Ross, Muse served as the assistant men's and women's coach at Ouachita Baptist University.
At Ouachita Baptist University Coach Muse was responsible for recruiting, planning of training sessions and on the field training for both the men's and women's programs. During his time at OBU the men's program increased their win total from 2 wins in 2013 to finishing the 2014 season with a 7-7-1 record. The 2014 season included a win over the #14 ranked in NCAA Division 2 and featured the first freshman Men's NSCAA Central Region selection in school history. The women's program achieved even greater success during Muses' tenure as it featured 4 all conference players including the Conference player of the year, two NSCAA Central Region players and an Daktronics First Team All-American selection. The OBU women's soccer team ended the 2014 season as the Great American Conference Champions, the first in school history.
Before coach Muse arrived at
Ouachita Baptist University he served as the assistant varsity/head junior varsity boys soccer Coach at Flower Mound High School for seven years. Prior to Flower Mound, he served in the same capacity at Burkburnett High School for 3 years.
As a player Muse has had the opportunity to experience soccer at many different levels throughout his career. Muse was a two time all-conference selection at Oral Roberts University and lead the 1999 team in scoring en route to the school’s first ever conference championship and first ever appearance in the NCAA Division I National Tournament. Muse finished his collegiate career at Midwestern State University Muse where he also garnered all conference recognition and was an integral part in helping MSU earn back to back conference championships and two consecutive appearances in the "Elite 8" round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament. After completing his collegiate playing career, Muse played professional soccer for FC Dallas of Major League Soccer for five years.
During the inaugural season of women's soccer here at Sul Ross, Muse was able to lead a team comprised of mostly freshman to a 4-13 record that included three American Southwest Conference wins. Sul Ross also placed two players on the ASC All-Conference Third Team and had players represented on the ASC Academic All-Conference Team.
Coach Muse is married to Shannon Muse and they have two sons, 13 year old Jeremiah and seven year old Joshua.
