Kurt Harmening was announced as the Chief of Staff/Scouting for the Lobo football program on June 20, 2022.
Prior to Sul Ross, Harmening served as Director of Player Personnel at Division I Valparaiso University in Indiana from January 2020 through early June 2022. Preceding his time at Valpo, he was the Talent/Tactical Scout at Illinois College.
Before entering coaching, Harmening spent eight years in property/casualty insurance claims for multiple Fortune 500 insurance carriers.
Harmening received a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in psychology from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. He is a native of Windsor Locks, Conn.
Kurt and his wife, Sarah, a disability claims professional, relocated from La Porte, Ind. They have one son, Kortland, who is seven.
