Kevin Canty 2020 Headshot

Kevin Canty

Coach Canty will be entering his 16th season coaching and his second season at Sul Ross State University as offensive coordinator for the Lobos.

During the Spring 2021 campaign, the Lobo offense produced four ASC All-Conference players. James White (Jr.) and Ajani Batts (Fr.) were named ASC Third Team for their offensive line contributions. They anchored an offensive line that improved on rushing yards a game and only allowed seven sacks in the five game season. That offensive line unit paved the way for running back Ozias Wright (So.) to be selected to ASC Second Team after averaging 4.5 yards per carry. Sophomore wide receiver Dre’Chan Moody was an Honorable Mention selection. Moody averaged 14.7 yards a reception during the spring season.

Canty comes to Alpine, TX from Beloit College. There he served as offensive coordinator, offensive line coach, and was the interim head football coach. Canty had six All-Midwest Conference and eight Academic All-Conference selections under his tutelage while at Beloit.

His coordinating experience includes stints at Lake Forest College, Brevard College in North Carolina where he coached offensive line, Husson University in Maine as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, and the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota as offensive line coach.

Canty also has head coaching experience at the high school level when he was head coach for two seasons at Hampden Academy in Maine. His team reached the quarterfinals of the state championship.

A 2006 graduate of Wingate University, where he was a three-year letterman for the Bulldogs on the offensive line, he began his coaching career at Wingate after graduating, working there for two seasons as the running backs and tight ends coach.

He has served as quarterback’s coach, offensive and special teams coordinator at Jordan High School in Durham, North Carolina.

Canty earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management at Wingate and his Master’s degree in Sport Administration at Nova Southeastern University in 2015.

An All-American at Wingate with over 30 starts on the offensive line, he was a starter in the East Coast Senior Bowl. The Bulldogs squad posted 23 victories during Canty's time.

Canty was selected to participate in the 2010 NCAA/NFL Coaches Academy. He has been an active member of The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) since 2008, currently on the Summer Manual Committee and is an Executive Board Member of the Minority Football Coaches Committee since 2011.
