Connor Simmons enters his first season as quarterback/wide receiver coach at Sul Ross State University
Before Sul Ross State, Simmons served as the head football coach and physical education teacher at Ganado High School in Ganado, Arizona. Prior to Ganado, he served as a graduate assistant at Shepherd University coaching the quarterbacks from 2017-2018.
During his time at Shepherd, the Rams finished the 2017 campaign 10-1 with a conference championship in the MEC. Simmons coached quarterback Connor Jessop at Shepherd University. Jessop finished the year as a Harlon Hill Finalists (4th place in the ballot), 2017 Don Hanson Football Gazette All-Super Region One 1st Team, 2017 D2football.com 2nd Team All-American, 2017 D2CCA All-Super Region 1st Team, 2017 1st Team MEC All Conference, MEC Record Holder with 38 Passing touchdowns (47 Total TD). Jessop finished the season: 249-394 (63%) 3,532yds 40td- 9int, (Rushing) 61-355yds 6td.
Simmons was a three-year letterman at Clarion University from 2014 to 2016 as starting quarterback for the Golden Eagles. In 2015, he led the team to a 7-4 finish. He was a Don Hanson 3rd Team All-Region nominee and a Harlon Hill Candidate. During his junior year, he finished with 3,582 passing yards 34 passing touchdowns (single season record holder completions, attempts, passing yards, passing touchdowns). In 2016, he finished the year with 2,424 passing yards and 20 passing touchdowns. For his career, Simmons finished with 7,814 passing yards, 67 passing touchdowns and nine rushing touchdowns. He owns the career records in touchdown passes, yards/game, passing efficiency.
Simmons played his freshman year at Erie Community College where he was a team captain.
He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management from Clarion University in 2016 and his Master’s Degree from Shepherd University in 2019 in Secondary Education.
Simmons resides in Alpine, Texas.
