Lobos Face Falcons In LSC Opener

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University football team (1-1) opens the Lone Star Conference season with The University of Teaxs Permian Basin (1-0 LSC, 1-1), Saturday, Sept. 19 at Jackson Field.

UT PERMIAN BASIN - 7:00 p.m.
UTPB, who are receiving votes in the AFCA Coaches Poll, is coming off a 69-14 win over Western New Mexico (Sept. 12).  The Falcons had 554 yards in total offense while holding the Mustangs to just 176 yards.

LAST WEEK
The Lobos had an impressive 53-26 win over Adams State (Sept. 5).  The win snapped a 14-game losing streak.

On offense, the Lobos threw for 423 yards and ran for 233 for 656 yards in total offense.  That is the fifth best single-game mark in NCAA program history. 

Will Howell was 24-of-39 for 423 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 31 yards and a score to total 454 yards in total offense.

Will Craven caught 10 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns.  Rashad Madden had a very strong day rushing for 166 yards and a touchdown and averaging 10.4 yards a carry.

Defensively, Sul Ross State had eight tackles for a loss with three sacks and broke up five passes.  Jabari Corbett led the way with eight tackles.

LONE STAR RANKINGS 
Sul Ross State is all over the LSC statistical rankings.  The Lobos are among the top three for team in 10 categories.  They lead  in kick return average (30.86), punt return average (15.33) and total defensive yards allowed (320.5 pg).

Individually, SRSU has 38 rankings in the top 10.  Leading the conference:

Will Craven – All Purpose Yards (182 pg), Receiving Yards per game (148.5) and Total Receiving Yards (297)

Will Howell – Passing Touchdowns (6) and Total Offense (370.5 pg)

Kyree Payton – Kick Return Average (43.67)

Taribbean Ramirez – Punt Return Average (15.33)

LOBO ACCOLADES 
Two weeks into the season and Sul Ross State has had LSC award winner each week.

Week 0 - Kyree Payton (Special Teams) returned two kickoffs for 113 yards vs. Wayland Baptist (Aug. 29).  He returned one 90 yards for a touchdown.  His second return was 23 yards and lead to a Lobo touchdown.

Week 1 - Will Howell (Offense) had a strong performance in leading Sul Ross State to a 53-26 win over Adams State (Sept. 5).  He was 24-of-39 for 423 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 31 yards and a score to total 454 yards in total offense.
