Lobos And Thunderwolves Slug It Out

ALPINE, Texas – Everything was left on the field as the Sul Ross State University women's soccer team (0-0-1) battled to a 0-0 tie with Colorado State Pueblo (0-0-1), Thursday afternoon at Lobo Soccer Field.

Defense was huge as Sul Ross State and Colorado State Pueblo gave up just five shots and only one on goal combined in the first half.

The Lobos and Thunderwolves turned up the heat in the second half with 19 combined shots and nine on goal.  

Sul Ross State had 11 shots with five on goal, four corner kicks and were called for five fouls.  Freshman Kat Graves had five saves.

Colorado State Pueblo had 13 shots with five on goal, four corner kicks and were called for two fouls.  Elaina Leitner had five saves.

"Unfortunately, we didn't get the win today, but earning a draw against a team that made the RMAC Conference Tournament last season is a step in the right direction. The effort, commitment, and belief in one another was there. Now we have to be more clinical when our opportunities come. I believe in this group. We must stay patient, keep working, and trust that the wins will come."

Sul Ross State remains home, Saturday, Aug. 29 playing Adams State.  The game is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
