Lobos Nipped By Mustangs

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Sul Ross State University softball team (5-33 Lone Star Conference, 7-38) lost 8-0 and 4-3 to Midwestern State (6-32 LSC, 8-40), Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park.

Game-1
Midwestern State scored five runs in the first inning to effectively seal the game.

For Sul Ross State, sophomore Janelle Leanos (2-7) gave up four hits, five runs and walked one in one inning.

For Midwestern State, Kayleigh Bowers (3-18) threw a no-hitter with six strikeouts over six innings.

Game-2
In the night cap, Sul Ross State used three hits and a walk to score two runs in the first inning. 

In the second inning, sophomores Carissa Fernandez and Jenna Leanos singled with one out.  Following an out, sophomore Alexandra Ramos singled to score Fernandez.

The Lobos took a 3-0 lead to the bottom of the sixth inning.  The Mustangs scored three runs in that inning and then scored in the bottom of the seventh.

For Sul Ross State, Leanos had three hits and junior Valeria Aguilar had two hits.  Freshman Jaclyn Pate (2-15) gave up seven hits, four runs with one earned, walked one and struck out two in 6.7 innings.

For Midwestern State, Shyann Florence (1-4) gave up five hits, one run and struck out one in five innings

Sul Ross State stays on the road, Sunday, May 3 closing out the season against Lubbock Christian.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
