Lobos See Mustangs Ride Away

SILVER CITY, New Mexico – The Sul Ross State University softball team (5-27 Lone Star Conference, 7-32) lost 9-3 and 9-3 to Western New Mexico (15-17 LSC, 19-23), Saturday afternoon at The Yard.

Game-1
Sul Ross State had a 1-0 lead after four innings.  In the fifth inning, junior Valeria Aguilar was on first with two outs.

Senior Elizabeth Clemente hit a two-run home run to put the Lobos up 3-0.  The Mustangs scored nine runs over the next two innings to take control. 

For Sul Ross State, Clemente, sophomore Jenna Leanos and sophomore Alexandra Ramos had two hits each.  Freshman Jaclyn Pate (2-12) gave up 11 hits, seven runs, walked two and struck out two in 5.3 innings.

For Western New Mexico, Alixe De Anda (7-8) gave up seven hits, three runs, walked one and struck out three in seven innings.

Game-2
In the night cap, WNMU looked to be in control with a 6-0 lead going into the sixth inning.  Leanos singled and walks to junior Samantha Bustos and Clemente loaded the bases with one out.

Freshman Baylie Savage singled to score Leanos.  Following an out, Ramos singled to score Bustos and Clemente to make it 6-3, Western New Mexico.

The Mustangs scored three runs in the bottom half to hold on.

For Sul Ross State, freshman Addison Castilleja (3-7) gave up 11 hits, nine runs, walked four and struck out six in 5.3 innings.

For Western New Mexico, Labraida Tenorio (6-9) gave up four hits, three runs, walked four and struck out seven in seven innings.

Sul Ross State returns home, Friday, Apr. 24, taking on St. Mary's (Texas).  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
