Sul Ross State Battles Lady Chaps

LUBBOCK, Texas – Junior Adriana Hernandez had four hits as the Sul Ross State University softball team (7-29 Lone Star Conference, 10-35) lost 4-3 and 16-1 to Lubbock Christian (19-17 LSC, 28-18), Sunday at Maner Park.

Game 1
In the third inning, an error, single and steal had freshman Jenna Leanos at third and senior Ciera Avila at second.

Leanos would score on a sacrifice fly from junior Tori Owens.  Hernandez ripped a single to score Avila and make it 2-0.

The Lady Chaps took the lead by scoring three runs in the bottom of the third.  In the fourth inning, sophomore Samantha Bustos doubled and would eventually score on an error.

In the fifth and seventh innings, the Lobos had at least one runner on but were stopped.  LCU scored in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

For Sul Ross State, Hernandez had three hits while Bustos had two.  Junior Leanza Chambers (2-15) gave up nine hits, four runs, walked five and struck out one in 6.3 innings.

For Lubbock Christian, Kendall Ward (5-1) gave up three hits, walked one and struck out two in four innings.

Game 2
The Lady Chaps scored 10 runs in the first inning to effectively end the game.

For Sul Ross State, Leanos had two hits.  Senior Alyvia Quintana (5-12) gave up five hits, six runs with one earned and walked one in two-thirds of an inning.

For Lubbock Christian, Teoni Lamb (7-7) gave up three hits, walked one and struck out four in three innings.

Sul Ross State keeps to the road, Wednesday, Apr. 16 playing Midwestern State.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
