Lobos Are Outsprinted By Greyhounds

PORTALES, New Mexico – The Sul Ross State University softball team (3-19 Lone Star Conference, 6-25) lost 9-2 and 4-0 to Eastern New Mexico (11-11 LSC, 18-14), Friday afternoon at Greyhound Softball Field.

Game 1
The Greyhounds led 5-0 after two innings.  In the third inning, freshman Jenna Leanos was at third and sophomore Vivian Jimenez was on second.

Senior Ciera Avila singled to score both runners, making it 5-2.  ENMU scored three in the bottom half to take control.

For Sul Ross State, freshman Janelle Leanos (2-3) gave up two hits and three runs in one inning.

For Eastern New Mexico, Miranda Guillen (6-4) gave up six hits, two runs with neither earned, walked one and struck out eight in seven innings.

Game 2
In each of the first four inning, the Lobos had a runner on but were unable to score a run.  Up 1-0, Eastern New Mexico sealed the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

For Sul Ross State, senior Alyvia Quintana (2-8) gave up nine hits, four runs, walked one and struck out one in five innings.

For Eastern New Mexico, Jordan Rivera (5-3) gave up no hits, no runs, walked two and struck out three in four innings.

Sul Ross State stays in New Mexico, Sunday, Mar. 23 taking on Western New Mexico.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. MT.
