Lobos Draw With Hilltoppers

ALPINE, Texas – The Sul Ross State University softball team (2-8 Lone Star Conference, 5-14) split with St. Edward's (7-3 LSC, 12-9), Friday at Lobo Softball Field.  The Lobos won 2-1 and then lost the nightcap 18-1.

Game 1
St. Edward's drew first blood getting a run in the first inning.  In the fifth inning with one out, junior Elizabeth Clemente drew a walk. Junior Adriana Hernandez sent the ball down the left field line and over the fence to make it 2-1, SRSU.

In the seventh inning, the Hilltoppers threaten with a runner at third and two outs.  The Lobos got a ground out to end the game. 

For Sul Ross State, junior Leanza Chambers (1-7) gave up eight hits and one run in seven innings.

For St. Edward's, Haley Carmona (1-4) gave up five hits, two runs, walked five and struck out two in six innings.

Game 2
SEU scored eight runs over the first two innings to seal the game.

For Sul Ross State, senior Alyvia Quintana (1-4) gave up nine hits, eight runs and walked one in two innings. 

For St. Edward's, Maddie Aguilar (3-1) gave up one hit, one run which was unearned and struck out one in three innings.

Sul Ross State remains home, Sunday, Mar. 1, hosting St. Mary's.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.
