Lobos Slug It Out With War Hawks

ALPINE, Texas – Senior Victoria Aguayo had a double-double and a milestone as the Sul Ross State University women's basketball team (1-6) lost 73-59 to McMurry (6-1), Tuesday evening at the Pete P. Gallego Center.

For the first period, McMurry got out to an 18-7 lead with 3:05 to go.  Sul Ross State began to chip away.

Sophomore Sophiya Bustillos hit a tough shot in the paint to close it to 21-16 at the 8:51 mark of the second period.  The War Hawks scored nine straight points to effectively end the game.

For Sul Ross State, Aguayo had 21 points, 14 rebounds and six steals while shooting 9-of-16 from the floor.  She now has 513 career rebounds, just the third player in NCAA program history to hit that milestone.

Freshman Itzel Caro scored 10 points and senior Ariana Escalante had nine points and nine rebounds.

For McMurry, Helena Chadwick had 27 points and five assists.

Sul Ross State remains home, Thursday, Dec. 18 playing UT Dallas.  The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
