MEN'S SOCCER: Lobos extend win streak to three with 3-0 victory over Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. — History continues to be made.

On Saturday afternoon, the Sul Ross State men's soccer team notched its third-straight victory with a 3-0 shutout over Adams State at the ASU Soccer Field.

The Lobos have now tied the longest winning streak in program history.

>> HOW IT HAPPENED:

It was a scoreless first half where Adams State narrowly out-shot the Lobos, 4-3.

That all changed in the second half as the Lobo defense settled down and the offense started capitalize.

Diego Hernandez ended the shutout by scoring on a penalty kick during the 45th minute.

Mario Hurtado put the Lobos up 2-0 with a goal in the 66nd minute.

In the 75th minute, Carlos Gonzalez found the back of the net off an assist by Hurtado.

>> GAME NOTES:
  • The Lobos flipped the script in the second half, out-shooting Adams State, 7-1.
  • SRSU had 10 shots compared to five for Adams State.
  • The Lobos have outscored their opponents, 11-4.
  • This was the third shutout of the season for the Lobos, breaking the program record of two set in 2019.
  • SRSU tied the program's longest winning streak of three games set in 2021.
  • Hurtado and Zackary Trimming each finished with two shots.
  • Gonzalez, Lewis Coates, Tatsuya Cosey, Martin Foro, Alan Huerta and Diego Hernandez all had one shot.
  • Goalkeeper Isaac Poole made his first start making one save in 90 minutes.
  • Gonzalez is tied for the team lead in goals with two alongside Hernandez and Coates.
  • Gonzalez and Hurtado lead the squad with two assists.
  • Eight different Lobos have scored this season.
