MEN'S SOCCER PREVIEW: Lobos host UT Tyler for Senior Day season finale

The Sul Ross State men's soccer program will look to finish the season off strong as it hosts UT Tyler for Senior Day on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. CST.

Jacob Garza, Justin Quinonez and student assistant Christian Fresquez will be recognized.

>> PREVIEWING THE FINAL GAME:

This is the season finale for both teams.

UT Tyler enters the match 4-5-6 overall and 2-2-5 in Lone Star Conference play. The Patriots are 2-0-2 in their last four matches.

Last weekend the Patriots notched a 2-1 win over Oklahoma Christian.

UT Tyler is in sixth place in the LSC with 11 points.

Junior midfielder Danny DeMarias leads the Patriots with five goals while sophomore forward Niko Vasileiou is second with four goals.

UT Tyler ranks sixth in the conference with 20 goals scored.

The Patriots meet the Lobos for the first time since Oct. 4, 2018. UT Tyler came away with a 1-0 win in Tyler, Texas.

>> THE LOBOS:
  • The Lobos have scored 17 goals this season, which is four shy of tying the program-high of 21 tallied by the 2018 squad.
  • Zachary Trimming leads SRSU with five goals scored and 11 points.
  • Carlos Gonzalez and Lewis Coates rank second in goal-scoring with three each.
  • Gonzalez and Coates are eighth and ninth, respectively, in the LSC with 16 shot on goals.
  • Eight different Lobos have scored this season which ties the high mark that was first recorded in 2023.
  • The Lobos are trying to win their first match since Oct. 16. SRSU is 0-4-1 in its last five matches.
  • The Lobos tied the longest winning streak in program history by tallying three-straight victories. The record was set in 2021.
  • This season's team has already notched the most wins in program history. The most wins ever tallied in program history were four back in 2019 and 2021.
  • The Lobos also made history this season by becoming the first program to win a home opener after going 0-5.
  • This year's program also won its season opener for the first time since 2021.
  • Benjamin Aviles leads the LSC in saves with 70. He has the fifth-best save percentage in the conference.
  • Aviles is 12 saves shy from tying the single-season high mark of 82 saves set by Frank Rodriguez in 2018.
