CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —
Cheyanne Bonilla led the Lobo women's basketball team with 19 points in its season-opening exhibition game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday night at the Dugan Wellness Center.

The Lobos were down 5-0 early in the opening quarter before Bonilla hit a jumper in the paint and
Melody Martinez landed another shot in the paint to cut the deficit to one.
Using a 12-0 run, the Islanders extended their lead to 14 points with 2:23 to go in the quarter.
Sul Ross State trailed 53-20 at the break.
The Lobos managed to go on a 5-0 run to end the third quarter as Martinez hit a three-pointer and
Kyra Taylor made a layup.
Sul Ross State nearly matched Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 27-22, in the fourth quarter.
The Lobos had a 4-0 run that started with a jumper in the paint by
Jema Padilla. Martinez and
Caitlyn Corley also knocked down two shots from beyond the arc in the final quarter.

- Bonilla also had five rebounds and four assists.
- Martinez finished with 15 points, four assists and three rebounds.
- Corley added with eight points and three rebounds.
- Victoria Aguayo tallied six points and grabbed three rebounds and two steals.
- The Lobos knocked down eight 3-pointers. Bonilla and Martinez combined to make six 3-pointers.
- Maddie Rhea grabbed five rebounds.
