WOMEN'S SOCCER: Lobos come up short in match against Pioneers

Late in the season, the Sul Ross State women's soccer team has been much improved despite what the record indicates.

Against a top three program in the Lone Star Conference, the Lobos gave it their all but fell short to the Texas Woman's University Pioneers, 1-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Lobo Soccer Field.

>> HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Pioneers tallied five shot attempts in the first half in comparison to three by the Lobos.

Benita Carreon made two saves in the goal before Celeste De La Rosa entered the match to make one save in the opening half.

Sul Ross State had two shot attempts on the mark, but goalkeeper Amanda Farris was there to make the save.

As the pressure kept surmounting with a scoreless match, each team had its fair share of chances in the second half.

The Lobos had five shot attempts in the second half, which included a shot from Karina Gallegos that narrowly missed the mark with two minutes to go.

Texas Woman's University had its defining moment when Arianna Arboleda found Giselle Gutierrez right in the box for what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 87th minute.
