CLARKSVILLE, Ark. — On Saturday afternoon, the Sul Ross State softball team split a doubleheader with the University of the Ozarks Eagles at Hurie Field.
The Eagles won Game 1, 10-3.
In Game 2, the Lobos overcame a 6-3 deficit to capture the 8-6 victory.
>> GAME 1:
Sul Ross trailed 3-0 until the top of the fourth when
Nadia Valverde cut the deficit to one with a two-run home run to center.
The Eagles answered by scoring three runs in the bottom half of the fourth to make the score, 6-2.
In the top of the sixth with one out, Valverde doubled to center while
Jaelyn Zuniga singled up the middle to put runners at first and third.
Camryn Hardin hit an RBI single to right to drive in pinch runner

The Lobos were held to six hits.
Valverde went 2 for 3 with a double, home run and two RBI. Hardin and
Lisbeth Dominguez each went 1 for 3 with a single.
Samantha Chavez singled in the top of the fourth to go 1 for 4.
Leanza Chambers suffered the loss after pitching four innings allowing nine hits.
Madilyn Martinez allowed four runs on four hits in two innings of relief.
>> GAME 2:
The Eagles scored one run in the first and one run in the second before the Lobos rallied for three runs in the top of the third.
Chavez drew a leadoff walk while
Annika Canaba was hit by a pitch. Valverde came into the clutch with an RBI single through the right side.
Hardin then drove in a run with a groundout to first while Zuniga hit an RBI single towards right to put the Lobos up by one run.
On five hits, the Eagles flipped the script in the bottom half of the third by scoring four runs to take a 6-3 lead.
Sul Ross began to chip away starting in the fifth when Hardin scored on an error by the shortstop after hitting a leadoff triple.
The Lobos took a one-run lead in the sixth by scoring three runs.
Canaba hit an RBI double to left center to drive in Chavez who led off the inning with a single. Valverde then drove in Canaba with an RBI single.
Leanza Chambers made the score 7-6 by driving in
Kyndell Garcia on a groundout to first.
Valverde stayed hot at the plate by hitting an RBI double in the top of the seventh to add some breathing room.
The Lobos had 11 hits to the 13 tallied by the Eagles.
Valverde finished 3 for 4 with two singles, a double, a walk and three RBI. Chavez tallied three singles and a walk to go 3 for 4 with two runs scored.
Hardin went 2 for 4 with a single, a triple, a walk and an RBI. Zuniga drove in two runs to finish 1 for 5 with a single.
Canaba scored three times as she went 1 for 4 with the RBI double.
Claire Decker hit a single in the second to finish 1 for 3 with a walk.
Hunter Montes earned the no-decision after pitching three innings.
Briannah Mejias earned the win to improve to 1-1 as she didn't allow a single run in four innings while she allowed just three hits and tallied one strikeout.
