WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Sul Ross State women's basketball team suffered a 62-49 loss to the Whitman College Blues on Day 2 of the Kim Evanger Raney Classic on Saturday night at the Sherwood Athletic Center.
>> HOW IT HAPPENED:
There was one lead change in the opening quarter as
Morgan Peralez tied up the score at two-all with a layup with 8:40 on the clock.
Sul Ross State took the lead on a layup by
Victoria Aguayo, but the Blues used an 8-0 run to flip the score and take a 10-4 lead.
The Lobos trailed by seven with 1:06 on the clock after a layup by
Marley Rokas.
Whitman led by as much as 19 points in the second quarter after beginning on a 7-0 run.
Sul Ross State cut the deficit down to 12 by going on a 4-0 run in the third quarter as Peralez and
Kayley Diaz made a pair of shots in the paint.
Unfortunately, the Lobos weren't able to erase the double-digit deficit.
>> ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: Morgan Peralez was named to the
Kim Evanger Raney Classic All-Tournament team. Peralez averaged 13.5 points in two games while she grabbed 16 total rebounds.
>> RECORDS: Sul Ross State (0-2); Whitman College (1-0)
>> GAME NOTES:
- Rokas led the Lobos with 14 points while Peralez added with 11 points.
- Aguayo grabbed 10 rebounds with nine coming on the defensive end.
- Ariana Escalante finished with five boards.
- Cheyanne Bonilla and Aguayo each tallied six points.
- The Lobos grabbed 32 total rebounds while they shot 19 fof 37 from the free throw line.
