FOOTBALL: Lobos extend win streak to three with 49-7 victory

SHERMAN, Texas — It was a dominating performance by the Sul Ross State football team on Saturday afternoon.

The Lobos defeated the Austin College Kangaroos 49-7 at Jerry E. Apple Stadium to extend their win streak to three games.

>> HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game got off to a slow start until Vicente Luevano returned a punt for a 74-yard touchdown to get the Lobos on the board, 7-0, with 2:11 in the first quarter.

Sul Ross State then spoiled the Kangaroos' next offensive series when Quincy Blair grabbed an interception on third-and-eight.

The 33-yard return set the Lobos up on the Austin College seven-yard line.

Andrew Martinez later punched it into the end zone from eight yards out on a touchdown run with 14:53 in the second quarter.

Sul Ross State extended its lead to 21-0 with a one-yard touchdown run by Rodd Hudson III which capped off an eight-play drive with 4:40 to go until halftime.

Austin College erased the shutout on its next offensive series with a four-play drive that was capped off with a 27-yard touchdown pass.

Using an eight-play drive, the Lobos retaliated with an eight-yard touchdown run by Martinez to make the score 28-7 at the break.

The Lobos scored on their first offensive series of the second half.

Martinez threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Ahmonte Kendrick to extend the lead to 35-7 with nine minutes to go in the third quarter.

Sul Ross State later scored with a five-yard touchdown run by Cyrin Myles with 6:30 to go in the contest.

The Lobo offense was too potent as it found the end zone with 18 seconds to go in the fourth quarter when Myles connected with Christopher Gisewhite on an eight-yard touchdown pass.
